Maligne Lake

The most photographed lake in Canada — and for good reason. Maligne's turquoise waters stretch 22 km beneath the Cathedral Peaks, offering an unforgettable paddling experience unlike anywhere else on Earth.

Talbot Lake

At just 4.5 feet deep and crystal-clear, Talbot is one of the only mountain lakes in Alberta with northern pike — and you can watch them from the boat. Sight-fishing in the Rockies? It doesn't get more unusual.

Important Information

Parks Canada Fishing Licence Required

If you plan to fish, you'll need a valid Parks Canada fishing licence. This is separate from your boat rental and can be purchased at local outfitters or online at Parks Canada's website.

Motorized Boats: Operator Card Required

Bringing or renting a motorized craft? All operators of motorized vessels must carry a valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC). This is a federal legal requirement — no exceptions.

Life Jackets Provided

All rentals include Transport Canada–approved life jackets for every person in your group. Safety is built in — no need to bring your own.

No Cell Service at Maligne Lake

There is no cellular service along Maligne Lake Road or at the lake itself. Download offline maps (e.g., Google Maps or maps.me) before you leave Jasper townsite.

All keys are available for pickup at the Astoria Hotel, 404 Connaught Drive, Jasper — during regular business hours. Return keys to the same location at the end of your rental.

Jasper is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Please respect wildlife, stay on designated water access points, carry out all your garbage, and leave these lakes as beautiful as you found them.

Frequently Asked Questions

No experience necessary for our canoes, kayaks, and rowboats on most lakes — these craft are stable and beginner-friendly. Jasper's mountain lakes are generally calm, making them perfect for first-timers. If you're planning to use a motorized vessel, you'll need a valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card. We're happy to give you a brief orientation when you pick up your keys if you'd like one.
Every rental includes your boat, paddles or oars, and Transport Canada–approved life jackets for each person in your group. Keys for the boat lock are provided at the Astoria Hotel. Fishing gear, bait, and Parks Canada fishing licences are not included and must be sourced separately.
Yes — if you intend to fish, a Parks Canada National Park fishing licence is required. This is separate from your boat rental. Licences must be purchased in person at the Astoria Hotel in Jasper townsite — they are not available online or at tackle shops. The boat rental itself does not require any special permit beyond what we provide.
Yes, on lakes where motors are permitted. Electric motors are permitted on Maligne Lake, Medicine Lake, Talbot Lake, Pyramid Lake, and Patricia Lake. Gas motors are not permitted on any lake within Jasper National Park. You'll need a valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) to operate any motorized vessel — this is a federal requirement. Please confirm motor permissions for your specific lake when booking.
Mountain weather changes quickly — and that's part of the adventure. Always check the forecast before heading out. If conditions deteriorate while you're on the water, head to shore immediately. Our boats are designed for typical lake conditions, but we strongly advise against paddling in strong winds or lightning. If you have concerns, call us at (782) 802-3944 — we'd rather rebook you than have you on the water in unsafe conditions.
It's simple: pick up your boat keys at the Astoria Hotel (404 Connaught Drive, Jasper) during business hours. You'll drive or travel to your lake, unlock the boat, and head out. At the end of your rental, secure the boat back at its dock and return the keys to the Astoria Hotel. That's it. If anything goes sideways, our number is +1 (782) 802-3944 — BOAT.
